Easy, breezy, beautiful
Easy 99.1 is an easy listening, soft rock radio station that broadcasts from Plymouth, MA. Plymouth is technically a seaside town (uh, the Pilgrims, yknow?), but it’s not really a “beach town.” BEACH-ADJACENT is how I see it, which is why I wanted to design the logo with a breezy seaside feel, without the usual beachy tropes.
The loose waves and seagull express that seaside feel, with a color palette that’s warm, with an early 80’s feel (like before the neon took over). I envision this brand to belong on a well worn vintage t-shirt belonging to some old sandy bar down a dirt path by the beach. Your fun uncle that ends up with a lampshade on his head at family gatherings probably has that shirt.
As a contrast to the bright, warm colors, I brought in these greyscale silhouetted images of the stars of the station: Tina Turner, Hall & Oates, Sinatra. It’s a nod to the vintage while feeling surprisingly modern within this design structure.
For the website, I wanted to play with collage layering, to add some fun dimension to the graphic elements with the silhouettes. Obviously from Ohno brought in a playful, hand-painted element to the text. Paired with the always friendly workhouse, Domus, the content is approachable and easy to navigate.
This is a station that appeals to several generations, so bringing in elements that could speak to everyone was super important. Keep on truckin’!
